Running a Small Business? Here's what you shouldn't do

1. Don't Rush into a Partnership

To be honest, you cannot do everything on your own. There may be friends, family, an old best friend, or significant other that may seem like potential partners; however, they may not be the perfect candidate for maintaining a business. The best partner is always someone whose skills and approach are the opposite of yours. This ensures that you can cover a lot more ground without needing additional employees and defend your business instincts by weeding out lesser ideas before you waste resources.

2. Don't get discouraged.

It's well known that running a business cannot be easily done. But look at it as a long, winding process that you should enjoy. You'll have ups and downs, you will gain amazing clients ad loose others. That's all part of having a business.  It is hard to find a business owner who made it without failure, disappointments and doubt along the way. We all experience it, but instead of giving up, focus on becoming more resilient and learning how to handle stress productively.

3. Don't lose the reason why you wanted to start a business in the first place.

Most people start a business because they may be following a passion or want more time to develop themselves and bond with family; however, why you started down this road in the first place is something to keep at the top of your mind. It is easy to get carried away and forget what you want to achieve by starting your own business. There are times when you will need to make temporary sacrifices, but it pays to be conscious of when you are in danger of permanently drifting away from your initial goal and what you attend the most.

4. Don't try to do everything yourself.

This is a serious table shaker!! Many of us as entrepreneurs feel we "got it all covered". We want to market, organise the accounts, create content, and be the legal expert in our business. This will not work, not even in a million years to come. Think of the best people for the tasks your business needs and contract some of them out. Yes, it may cost money, but focus on what you can do to get the business running and stop trying to be your own bookkeeper. Saving financial resources is essential, but don't let your task list limit your big goals. TAKE SOME LOAD OFF!
